Rumours are starting to heighten with Apples developer conference on the horizon and with the imminent announcement of the iPhone 5. One such rumour is that of an iPad Mini, something in the region of the Kindle Fire, still retaining the 10inch iPad but just adding to the range, a slightly smaller model and therefore able to compete price wise with the Kindle Fire.
For me personally, I am not too sure if it would be a wise move on Apples part. Obviously, Amazon have not yet released the Kindle Fire in the UK, however I do have a Kindle and I much prefer reading books on it due to the size. I use my iPad for magazines because of the colour aspect, so I guess if I had a Kindle Fire I would use it for the main bulk of my reading. In that respect should Apple produced an iPad Mini I would certainly buy one and use it for reading, which I do a lot of and keep the main iPad for media and other such activities.
My concern lies with the fact Steve Jobs deemed it an unnecessary product, when he made this decision he was already aware if the Kindle
Fire and other tablets in that range. I fear, and this is drifting of the issues slightly, that Apple are slipping a bit with Tim Cook at the helm and as such, could easily see Apple fall in a similar fashion to when Bill Gates left Microsoft. Jobs and Gates, regardless of our personal opinions, both had a sense for the industry and their respective companies that no other can learn or live up to.
That being said, it is also looking very likely that Apple could introduce and new MacBook Pro range, something in line of the MacBook Air form factor with a 15inch screen. There is also rumours rife on the notion that Apple will also introduce a lower priced range MacBook Air that may indicate the introduction of an iPad Mini.
I would certainly buy an iPad Mini and I actually think it would be a big hit for kids during the Christmas period. I think parents are dubious about handing their children an iPad based on the actual cost of the unit, however if there was a much cheaper version based on size of the 7inch form factor, Apple would do well in this market. What are your opinions on the iPad Mini rumour, is this a product you would welcome to Apples range? or would it not effect you either way? I would love to get your feed back on this matter and see where the general opinion lies.
