First of all I would like to welcome you all to my new site, Techmedia Fusion. For those of you that where with me on my previous site, Tech Planet 30, I hope you find my new site much more professional and fluid. For those of you new to Techmedia Fusion and do not really know anything about me, I hope this will help answer your questions.
My name is Ivor Harrison, however all my friends call me Harry. I served in the British Army for almost 13 years, however I sustained a serious spinal injury whilst on Operational Tour. To date, unfortunately I have been through numerous spinal fusions and other treatments to aid my pain. I was medically retired from the Army and became really quite lost as I joined the Army at 16 and signed up for the full term of 22 years. Due to my injury and the job I was doing in the Army, I was unable to fulfil my duties and so was Medically Retired. I really lacked scope in terms of employment so I decided to do a few IT courses, hoping to aid my reintroduction into civilian life.
I have been married for 16 years and together my wife and I have three wonderful children, all of them have at one point or another featured in my videos. My eldest daughter is 11 and my son Jude is 8. Jude is very much like me and very enthusiastic about tech and gaming. My youngest daughter is aged 7.
I completed a HNC (Higher National Certificate) in Computer Programming, covering languages such as Pascal, Basic, C++ and Visual. At this stage of my life I only used PC’s i.e. Windows based computers. I enjoyed the course so much that I decided to complete a few more courses. I completed an A+ course and then my MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer). After quite some time of using MS Windows I wanted to expand my knowledge of other operating systems. It was at this point that I installed a few different Linux distros on some of my PC’s at the time. It took a while but I finally got to grips with Linux and really enjoyed the experience.
My next move was to buy a Mac, which at the time, I pretty much knew nothing about them, I didn’t even know the correct name for the Mac OS. I purchased a 12inch G3 iBook from ebay which was a beautiful looking machine. After using the iBook for about a month, I started to notice that I was using my PC’s less and less. It was at this stage that I sold my PC’s and decided to buy a brand new Mac and the rest as they say is history. I did however keep an Acer laptop with Windows XP and Ubuntu installed on it. I knew it was important not to completely ditch Windows or Linux.
My move to Mac was not based on a hatred for Windows or Linux, after all I would say that still to this day I am better qualified on Windows than any other OS. It was simply a case of I preferred the Mac OS.
Around the beginning of 2006 I stumbled upon YouTube and started watching loads of really interesting people making videos. It wasn’t until November 2006 that I decided to take the plunge and upload my first video. Like most of you I am sure, I was so nervous and the video was so stupid, but never the less it was the beginning of a fantastic experience for me. I loved making my own videos and adding them onto YouTube so much that I decided to design my own web site to complement my YouTube Channel. That was when I started Tech Planet 30 for which I received an absolutely tremendous amount of support from the community I had joined on YouTube. Tech Planet 30 was a fantastic experience for me and I aim to keep the site, however I needed to design a more simple and professional site and I hope I have done this with Techmedia Fusion.
